Generation Gap : An Editorial Column.

Essay on Generation Gap - above 500 words.

Generation Gap : The new crisis of the present world.

The nature of the relationship between the two generations is changing in modern families. The absolute authority of the parents over the son or daughter and the loyalty of the child to the parents is not very noticeable these days. The mental gap between these two generations is widening. This gap becomes apparent around any reform or decision. This is known as Generation Gap.

It goes without saying that the new generation does not value the customs and traditions of the old generation. In this way, parents are considered conservative or conservative. Sons-daughter loyalty or attraction is decentralized to various subordinate organizations or institutions outside the family. Ignoring family ties or family authority is causing unwanted conflict, both emotionally and practically.

We spend the first half of our life trying to understand the older generation and the second half to understand the younger generation. Every age has its own way of looking at things and it is these changes in perceptions that create the generation gap. There has always been an opposition, implicit or explicit, between the old and the young. The old people, having seen much of the life, consider their experience and wisdom as infallible and tend to dictate the young according to their own ideas and notions.. They forget that the world is a whole generation older than what it was in their younger age. Failing to adjust themselves to the rapidly changing world, they find it very difficult to accept anything that does not conform to their perceptions.

Every age or generation must be free to act for itself. The dreams, ideologies, values and aspirations of the young and the old will always differ. The old generation stands for traditional values, social norms and moral codes of conduct which the young cannot readily accept. They make their own analysis of good or bad, right or wrong and clamour for changes in the whole socio-economic set-up. They are against anything that suppresses their individuality. They struggle to mould their lives and actions according to their own perceptions, while the old generation discards and denounces them for being rash, thoughtless and irrational. The conflicting ideologies of the two generations thus cause frustration and tension among the youth and fury and anxiety among the old. The generation gap thus continues to grow.

In keeping with the laws of nature, the old must yield place to the new and allow them to build a world of their dreams in their own way.

Although the generation gap is not a social problem nowadays, its position in society is clear. This creates a kind of distance in the mental, practical and thought world of one generation with another; One generation is unable to adapt to the policies, norms, social values, way of life, etc. of the other generation. In order to bridge this mental distance in general, the older generation will try to understand the hopes and aspirations of the new generation; In the same way, the new generation will try to understand the values of the old generation.
